I know we have a bunch of college students but for those of us beyond that wonderful paradise (STAY AS LONG AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN), and not rich enough to not have to work (I envy Cars123...) what is your job?
I manage the daily printing of a newspaper (it's this thing that old people read that will probably be non-existent in 20 years, due to the fact that most people in their 30's and below read the same content on websites for free, but they're great for blankets for the homeless and toilets for puppies), hence my very unsual playing hours at times - I work some days and some overnights, so sometimes I'll be on during the day, sometimes evenings when on a normal work day, and sometimes from 4am to 8am after work.

Associate at a private equity fund. We do leveraged buyouts of public and private companies... or at least we used to before the credit markets snapped in half. Now most of my time goes to keeping our highly leveraged portfolio companies out of bankruptcy.
Wow. Comes off as much more depressing when I actually see it in writing.

I knew a guy that played like that, actually. I was simply amazed that he could swing without breaking his left wrist or without destroying the soft tissue in his elbow, much less make contact with the ball. Sure seems to help the guy with his short game though. Can't break down and flip the club over without hurting yourself or falling backwards with that hand position. Either way, whatever works. This game is so fked anyway that whatever it takes to get around the course will be enough.
Worst part about our jobs scoots, is that when we play and shoot 76...people stare daggers at you like it's your fault. Sorry I spent 4 hours yesterday watching someone swing kack-handed (lol ty for that gally). But seriously, the last person anyone should expect to play well once a week would be an instructor, especially me considering I spent more personal time on OOB training mode than I do on a real life practice tee (Michigan weather is balls).

When I think back - I could have made a pretty decent player if I'd kept at it. The recent BDO finals saw one of my old friends playing - we were of a similar standard when I was playing county darts....... sigh.... who knows what might have been? I could have been a contender ;D

I got made redundant just before christmas and me and the wife are screwed! I've held off saying anything in the open forum for a while but may as well get it out in the open to show a sign of support to you considering you are in the same situation.
IT SUCKS! and i'm sorry to hear that you are going to face some tough times for a bit. Be thankful that you've got some great guys here who will always offer support and a kind word. Up until now the only people i've told are RD, Cars and Clint and they have all been brilliant to me, offering an ear when i've needed a chat and a bit of time when i've been feeling low. At the moment i'm a house husband looking after my 2 year old and sometimes feel very starved of adult conversation so this forum certainly has been a very good release for me.

Sorry to hear about your situation Welp, that sucks when you have absolutely no notice. Hopefully you will be able to find work somewhere soon.
As for me, I am going between unemployed and driving a transfer truck for a paving company here in Northern California. The owners have done a good job keeping us working pretty busy for the first 2 of the 3 years I've been with them. This past year has been rough for all of the paving outfits in the area and the upcoming year isn't looking too promising. When we have enough work for a decent week, we will work. Otherwise, it's back to sitting at home waiting for a phone call bored out of my mind. So if any one wants a ladder match and see's me on shoot me a message, I'm usually good for a pretty easy win. ;D

The company I was working security for closed overnight between friday and saturday. I went in for my shift today and there was a paper printout/sign in the door from management saying they were closing down immediately and that employees would be receiving their final checks in the mail. Not even a freakin phone call.
Sigh.
Welp, I'm so sorry to hear that!! Keep your chin up...something will come along when you least expect it.
I may be in the ranks soon, too. I work for an Engineering Firm (very small) and do Computer Drafting and Design. Most (80%) of our work is Government work with the State of Tenn. and since the major state cutbacks have started to happen, we haven't been paid by the State for over 3 months, plus we have had several different contracts that we have with them cancelled or indefinitely postponed. I recently found out that the owner of my Company has not taken a paycheck for the last 2 months in order to be able to pay his employees (there are only about 16 of us). We have already lost 5 to lay-offs and the prospect is not looking very good for the rest of us as of this past Friday.
My sister also works for one of the largest Eng. firms in Nashville and has been keeping me posted on what has been going on with a lot of the other firms around town and it is not looking good at all for me finding work elsewhere if I get my pink slip.
Let's all keep our chins up and pray that things get better for everyone!!

Sorry to hear that inter, it's amazing to me just how bad it's all gotten since the economy went into the toilet.
Long, here's hoping for more work for your company, and same to you tnjj!
I'm trying to look at the positive side, more time with the kids and such. Its just that after we made it through the holidays I figured this company would stay afloat, and then to just have it shut down like that, very frustrating.
Here's hoping a new opportunity comes along soon :) For myself and also for all of you who need one(or will need one) as well.

I am very sorry to hear about your jobs guys. Really harsh times.
You guys have some very interesting jobs. Nice to put some info to the person I chat to in the lobbys etc.
I am a civillian steward for the RAF, but unfortunately I have been off work sick since March 08. Started off with what I thought was a urine infection, which it wasnt and now i have what is known as Chronic Pelvic Pain. I have seen specialist aft-er specialist, doctors nurses x-rays, tests etc etc.... There is no known cure for this, all I get is a pain killer once a day to kind of dull the ache, and as of late, they have stuck me on happy pills too. Well you know how it gets when you are off so long.
Yes I am online quite a lot to play golf, but I do this to take my mind off it, and to get a conversation from all my pals.
I have had quite a few jobs of different natures, but i must say that when I am fit and healthy again, I would love to try and get some qualifications to work with animals. I adore cats (we have 7) and would love to work first hand with them all day.
Can't wait to get better, and get stuck in, I do get really bored somedays.

The old adage that "someone else is always having a tougher go of it" hits home again. I am sorry to hear that some of you are facing difficult situations. I will keep you all in my prayers!

Okay, here goes the emotional pregnancy hormonal tears flowing..... I cannot stand to read this, I feel so sorry for you all who have lost your jobs.... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
This economy is going to hurt us all in the long run.... even if your are stable. I wish they would put duct tape on the medias mouths for just 30 days and I bet things would improve.
I wake up happy, I watch Robin Meade (hey I love her!) and then I think I should go sell my measly IRA's and stash my money in a coffee can and bury it in the backyard.
I recently tried trading in my vehicles for something more affordable since we are making less money, and having more kids (lol)
I tried trading in my Car I have had for ONLY 1 year, no interest, put $2,000 down on it.... and they tell me they will give me $15,000 less than what I owe.
I am currently writing a letter to the president of Wells Fargo because I am seriously screwed on my RV. Same reason, but that one is upside down $130,000!!!! (that was our home when we traveled for a living)
Sound like anyone's upside house you know?
So even if you have a job, you are fighting the fact that you paid too much for your house, your car, your RV, and even to trade it in they want to give you less than half of what you owe!
I am not looking for anyones sobs on this, because not having a job is much worse for you all, and since we are currently working there should be no pity for us. But having said that, it goes beyond not having a job.
My parents own a house in California that was worth $450,000 2 years ago, they took out a loan against their house.
It is now only worth $200,000 and dropping everyday.
They are upside down $200,000 on it now.
I am just venting here, but I do have a point, dont know what it is.....
Oh yeah, tell the media to quit telling us all to not spend our money and go into hiding, that is what is killing our economy!!!!!

"This economy is going to hurt us all in the long run.... even if your are stable. I wish they would put duct tape on the medias mouths for just 30 days and I bet things would improve. "
to that i say: "...I think I love you.
So what am I so afraid of?
I'm afraid that I'm not sure of
A love there is no cure for..."
btw, my estimate based on the information i have at this time is that the current bad spell will be over in as little as 13-14 years (assuming that the Left Wing Spending on Political Contributors bill is passed). So that is cheery. Certainly it will last no longer than 70 years (based on past evidence of similar activities).

lol. part of what our committee is doing right now is figuring out how long this is going to last for. I think in about 3 years we will start to see things improve.
Might you I said improve not go back to normal :)

There is always a place for optimism. At the very least, 3 years from now we will be hearing about how much the 'stimulus' package has helped us.

Well, at the moment, I'm going to college in Central Kansas, majoring in math, and hopefully get a job as an actuary in Kansas City. On every Saturday and Sunday, then a few days during the week, I work at the local convenience store. I can't say the economy's affected us here like it has some of you, though. I know that since everyone that works where I work hates it, and they're always quitting, I'm probably going to be a mainstay until they can get others to stay for more than a month or two.
