I saw this crazy dude in the lobby last night and checked his credentials. He had won all tournaments entered in G3 through G1 and won 25 out 50 G0's! He was listed as from Australia, his name was all symbols (i.e. *%#@ and I think there was a music note in there) and he only communicated using the pre-composed messages. I joined a points match with him where he proceeded to sink long, intentionally set up chip shots. When I would drop one closer to the pin he would self induce a backdoor putt! I was crushed in 5 holes. Does anyone know who this is? Are Japanese gamers buying the english version to beat up on us?

lol yea he's pretty popular. Name is Shihiko.

He's got one of the most popular (only?) fan sites at www.mingol.shihiko.net

He came over from the japanese server but spends most of his time over there. Pretty well known in the G0 circle even though he isn't around much any more.

Wow. Now that I've caught wind of the legend I'll have to check out his site. I'm glad we don't see him too often :)

Yeah, I had the privilege of playing him a couple of times too. Points matches. Think I held out 6 holes one time... He's awesome!

The funny thing is that Shihiko himself will admit that he's not the best, but there's a bunch of high level golfers just like him in Japan. Ask the guys from here that have purchased Minna. The scores over there are ridonkulous. For example - how about a -26 on Oceania?

How do they do it though - that's the questions! To be so consistantly accurate with every impact, and be able to account for varied wind and lie conditions. I know that some of us are very good by standards and that we consistently shoot great scores on most courses but to be able to rabbit/turtle, drop in spirals, homers and risers for fun on even the harder courses is unbeleivable.

With all of the variables I don't know how anybody gets that good unless it's their full-time job. Even if you calculate all of the math with the information given and get perfect impact you still can't pinpoint the landing where all the most crucial physics happens. I'm waiting for my Minna order to ship and I can't wait to see the competition. I'll be surprised if I make G1.

Hey BeEmerson, where did you order from?

TIA

japanvideogames.com is where I ordered from. There are several other outlets for the imported game but my concern now is getting a japanese psn yen card so I can get the necessary DLC. I've seen some out there but only the 3000 yen card.

I've been looking online as well, i'm currently watching a guy who has 8 5000yen cards on ebay.com. There retailing for $63.99. His user id is "dave123eb", he has a very good feedback rating and will process the transaction so you pay and then he emails you the code so you shouldn't have to worry too much about the delivery side of things.

I played against shihiko a few weeks ago in a few points matches and what he can do at oceania is insane. I never even attempted half of the stuff he was doing and the way he can do air spirals whenever he wants to is just incredible.

A spiral shot is when you press both super topspin (up) and super sidespin ( left or right )
and super backspin (down) and the opposite to your super sidespin (left or right)
hit a perfect impact shot and strike the pin at the same time.

So simply put either press/hold diagonally up or down on your first button press
and do the opposite on your impact button press diagonally up or down

It is not an easy shot by any means. Those who can pull it off on command are "special"
players and should be in some kind of hall of fame.

A spiral shot is just holding Left and then doing right (or vice-versa). Up and down are not necessary.

Perfect impact is needed.

Really? I guess I best read your walkthrough again!

I always thought is was with up/down too... ???

No wonder I only have one!

dawgs right , but i do find it easier to pull off by doing it on the diagonal though :)

That is a super diagonal spin (which is a spiral shot as well). But Top spin is up, backspin is down, and sprial is left or right.

BeEmerson making G1 is not so hard (I made it on Minna) but competing on G1 is already pretty difficult :)

BTW - I played Shihiko in two point matches in a row and twice he spiral aced the first hole... Nice start...but he was realistic and said he couldn't shoot them on command :)

Air spirals aren't really as difficult as some people would have you believe. Hit up the practice tee and practice it with a variety of clubs (personally it's either pw or 3 iron for me). As long as you're aware of your character's sidespin and spin stats and how it'll effect the shot, it's certainly something that you can learn how to do on command (provided your PI is reliable). Practice tee is where it's at for specialty shots, like short homings and air risers/spirals.

I air spiral on occasion inside 10 yards when the flag isn't in my face (riser flag is 10 points less, but a more reliable shot).

Do you always get the 30 points for a pin hit with an air spiral, or is it quirky like with regular chips (which may or may not give you the 30 points)?

MasonR

You always get the 30 points for contacting the pin from the air. I think I resolved the issue we talked about a long time ago with quirky pin points.

I've looked at my "ground pin" shots in which I've received 30 points for a ball that was rolling on the ground (which shi says is impossible), and noticed that in all three instances the ball became (ever so slightly) airborn after the pin hit, kinda like on a brutal lipout.

It's a shame you can't get pin points on air risers though, imagine a flagball shot...solid 100 points just for specials would be nice. :o

So as not to confuse myself, I'm just going to assume you meant to say air risers and not air spirals here.

:(

Yeah, I meant air risers.
