I know me and a few others are very experienced in the Hot Shots Golf Series.

Obviously there are others who just started for the first time.

Hopefully this topic will answer any questions you can have with the game. Feel free to ask anything you have on your mind and I, or someone else, will answer it the best we can.

hey dawg!!

Q. is it possible to repeatedly batter nick over the head with a 4 iron!!! >:(

Q. when you guys play is it all down to experience and feel for things like uphill/sloping lie/ into wind etc etc.......or at one point did you actually sit back and work out the percentages for say 200 yards 4.8 uphill, 6.0 wind against ?? based on an iron hitting 203 yards i say i need to use power shot or up a club ??

Q. if say your hitting 160yards to a flat green and the club hits 160 yards , do you guys just hit a normal shot or are you always looking to BS or SBS??

Q. when will i be good enough to get out of G1(119games/ 2 wins/2 seconds/13 pods/........should i go away for a week and practice non stop on crowns without going online?

Q. has anyone ever manged to stop the ball on the 4th green(par 3) at crowns in a no backspin competition?

LOL Clint

Q. is it possible to repeatedly batter nick over the head with a 4 iron!!!

Yeah I wish.

Q. when you guys play is it all down to experience and feel for things like uphill/sloping lie/ into wind etc etc.......or at one point did you actually sit back and work out the percentages for say 200 yards 4.8 uphill, 6.0 wind against ?? based on an iron hitting 203 yards i say i need to use power shot or up a club ??

Something like that. I usually take it one step further and look at the slope of the green also. Looking at the slope of the green is the most important aspect to me. You want to have an uphill shot rather than a downhill shot and you want a flat surface rather than one on an incline. Take a better look at the green and you may notice after the hole there is a nice 20 foot area of flat green. This will show you that if you are going for the hole, try to overshoot the number so you will have a good chance for a 1 putt.

Q. if say your hitting 160yards to a flat green and the club hits 160 yards , do you guys just hit a normal shot or are you always looking to BS or SBS??

I usually try and go for a SBS shot just to stick it to the green or, if you are lucky, activate a homing shot to hit the pin. Either way you should be insanely close to the hole. But, if you are going for a shot that you want a chance to sink it in the hole, go for a normal shot. To sink in a SBS shot, you usually need an extra yard or two for homing.

Q. when will i be good enough to get out of G1(119games/ 2 wins/2 seconds/13 pods/........should i go away for a week and practice non stop on crowns without going online?

That is a tough question. I will be honest with you though, if you are having trouble with G1, G0 is not going to be any better. When you reach this rank, you will be facing the best of the best, and they are hard. It is really hard to reach g0 because you need 30 points in 30 games. Practicing offline is a great way to improve your game fast. Say if you see a game that you are going to enter, try practicing offline in those conditions before the tournament. You would be surprised how much that can help your game. Many times I have done this and it has been successful for me.

Q. has anyone ever manged to stop the ball on the 4th green(par 3) at crowns in a no backspin competition?

LOL. Every par 3 on crown links is a nightmare and this hole is the worst. When I attempt any hole in the game I am upset if I don't get at least a birdie. When I shoot at this hole, I am grateful for a par. In a no backspin tournament I would try to really undershoot the green and maybe even miss it and hit the fairway. It is possible, even in a 50 person tournament, that 1 out of 50 might get a birdie. And alot of people will hit the water or bunker trying to go for the green. Be safe on this hole.

LOL. Yeah I wish I did too. I remember on gamefaqs they had people ranking beginning players and some noob had Nick at the top of the list. I really hope they were joking. ;D

As someone whos played every HSG game from the beginning as well as numerous other golfing games, I'll chime in my 2 cents.

1. I actually don't mind Nick as a character...I just hate any character with a hook in HSG:OOB. For some reason I find them much harder to control than any previous installment of the game.

2. Honestely I think it depends on the player. Yes, to some degree you have to understand how every club plays and what slope means to that club. a 10y uphill is gonna mean a lot less to a pw than it is to a 1w because of the flight path of the ball. So I don't have any concrete math formulas in my head when I shoot, but I always choose my shot based on how the ball lies, the wind, the slope, and the direction the green is moving.

3. Again this depends on the wind and the slope of the green. If the green is going away from the fairway, I'm much more likely to pull back and play the backspin knowing that when the ball hits the green its gonna bounce downhill a bit. Where if the green is downhill toward the fairway I'll attack the pin a little more, not be afraid to overhit the pin a little bit and backspin it down towards the hole.

4. I'd say it depends on the type of player you are. Playing online a lot is gonna give you a general idea of everyone's abilities and what number you're going to need to hit to win on a certain course under certain conditions. Also, playig in game lobbies may show you how others play a certain hole and change the way you play it. Offline practice is faster though. You're gonna get more games in. And you won't feel the pressure as you would playing in a tournament.

5. Basically what Roughdawg said...Then again my philosophy in game is strong consistent play. You can't win a tournament on any single hole, but you can blow up and lose it. However theres also a thing as playing too conservative and bogeying holes you really shouldn't. But yeah, in general I play that hole for par, but depending on the conditions like wind, what character I'm using, and pin placement, I will attack the hole a little more and you certainly can birdie it.

Question on game mechanics...If I use Sophie who is naturally bad at rain...then give her the infinity ball on top of it which makes you bad in rain...Do those 2 negatives stack? Will I be even worse in rain?

Rain weaknesses do not stack with Infinity equipment.

Keep in mind that there are two types of rain, Rain which lowers %s to 90-97%, and Downpoor, which lowers both ends by 2%, 88-95%. These percentages stay the same with Inf equipment.

Some people claimed that it did, but that's incorrect. There was an argument that Inf club in the rain reduced impact stat...but that's what Inf club normally does anyway. It's no different. Weaknesses do not stack.

Roughdawg4
08-03-2008, 07:32 AM
6 courses ( 1 extra downloadable course)
15 Characters ( 2 extra downloadable characters)
Alot of different types of balls and clubs to chose from.

They are listed in my walkthrough what each type does.

roughdawg, why don't you just put a link to your walkthrough in your signature so everytime you post people can see it and just click it.

Roughdawg4

I don't know, that just seems wierd.

I think Morpheus stickied my links to the walkthrough, so they are much easier to access now.

Roughdawg4
08-03-2008, 03:54 PM
yes but they are cheap.

The characters are $0.99 a piece

and I don't remember how much the course is, I posted the price in my walkthrogh though.

2 questions

is there any noticeable affect on the ball from the wind when putting?

I don't understand what a "flyer warning" is. Birds flying by or something! lol

thanx.

Roughdawg4
08-03-2008, 10:09 PM
There is no effect on the ball with wind. You might think there should be but because the ball is close to the ground there is no difference.

A flyer warning is when you hit the ball using too much power. When you play golf and you are in the rough, it is common to use too much power to muscle the ball out of the rough. Of course, when I play golf for real and this happens, I use a different f word. :D

Just curious to know what's the fastest wind speed anyone has seen on the game. The fastest I've seen is like 7.8. Wondering how high it can go....

FlyingElf
08-04-2008, 12:41 AM
I've got into the 8s before...dunno if I've ever seen 9...

As for wind and putting...the wind affects the ball while putting in real golf, so I wouldn't complain too much if it did in a game.

clint_westwood

fluttering between 8.20 and 8.30 on sliver peaks 2nd hole...........ouch!!!!

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 06:17 AM
it does effect it. It doesn't seem to do it much for me, but I guess it depends on the course. Usually you are surrounded by trees and that should cut out the wind on the ground.

Q for dawg

i am obsessed by getting this spiral gear , the long coat (poncho) , its the only item i do not have.

now i know what a spiral shot is i.e left on backswing , right on follow through or vice versa, and also up/right on backswing then down/left on followthrough with perfect impact...

but like rising can i do this from 7-10 yards on the fringe??

and do i have to aim slightly left or right of pin to allow for curve/ball flight....

unlike rising or homing where you just smash straight at it.

so peed off.........must be the only G0 not to have these items

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 09:09 AM
yes. Homing shot is the only one that seems to lose activation (due to how it hits the slope or not enough distance to build up backspin).

And you do not have to adjust for Spiral shot depending on the surface. If you are attempting on Highlands, generally there is no slope or movement, so just aim directly at the cup. I thought it would be harder than it was, but it is really simple. You will laugh on how easy it was when you get it.

clint_westwood
08-04-2008, 09:20 AM
well i have now had two rounds at highlands on reg tee with anya ensuring turbo spin and sidespin are S or A.

failed on every attempt..........does it have to be for birdie or better dawg??

i am layin up on everyhole trying to leave a nice 7-10 yarder for birdie....

think i finished highlands reg tee at -3 for 18 holes just lol ...............now hows that for a G0 score eh???

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 09:44 AM
haha yeah it happens. When I made the walkthrough breakdown for each hole, my scores were horrible. I was concentrating too much on typing.

I believe it does have to be a birdie or better. A great place to do it is on a short eagle. Instead of hitting the green on 2 for an eagle, miss the green. Then on your eagle shot, you can pinpoint very easily where on the fringe you want to attempt your spiral birdie chip shot.

Morpheus,

I figured I would pipe in here........in the game this just means that you may get a shot of %110 or something when the lie indicator may be %83-%95. Seems to happen when you get perfect impact but is even random then.

A flyer in real golf is caused by getting grass between the club face and the ball at impact. This causes the ball to shoot off with no spin and the ball will fly a considerably longer distance. It is possible to read the lie of your ball and attempt to judge its potential for producing a flyer. You may club down or try to swing more easily to compensate. Even in real golf it is unpredictable at best.

I think this a great feature in HSOOB and adds a little real life variability to the game!!

Morpheus

so to get a rising, homing, or spiral shot, you have to do what exactly?

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 01:24 PM
SUPER BACK SPIN. (HOMING SHOT)
Press the up button when setting power and the down button at impact.
If you get a perfect impact, the ball will burn with blue flames and spin
backwards on the green or fairway.

SUPER TOP SPIN (RISING SHOT)
Press the down button when setting power and the up button at impact.
If you get a perfect impact, you will hit a low flying top spin shot.
This shot can also skip across water.

SUPER SIDE SPIN (SPIRAL SHOT)
Press the right or left button when setting power and the opposite at
impact to hit a ball with super side spin. This ball will have an even
bigger curve.

08-04-2008, 01:37 PM
ok so thats how you get the outfits? you just hit the ball with super backspin, topspin, or spiral?

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 01:39 PM
yeah but it needs to be a birdie or better.

didikong99
08-04-2008, 01:42 PM
ok so thats how you get the outfits? you just hit the ball with super backspin, topspin, or spiral?
You can also get outfits for Eagle, Albatros, Ace, hitting flag... etc

ajsliver
08-04-2008, 01:45 PM
does the ball have to go in when you hit the spin ball, or can you just hit with spin to get there?

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 01:52 PM
it has to go in the hole.

ajsliver
08-04-2008, 01:57 PM
oh, dang. thanks for the help

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 01:59 PM
you can do it from a short distance though (except for the homing shot)

the other two you can do on highlands about 8 yards out

ajsliver
08-04-2008, 02:33 PM
oh so it doesnt have to be a drive?

Roughdawg4
08-04-2008, 03:31 PM
It doesn't have to be from the tee, it can be anywhere in the course where you are hitting an iron or a wood.

ajsliver
08-04-2008, 08:24 PM
ok i guess that's easier. :)

clint_westwood
08-05-2008, 04:35 AM
yeah silver if your so keen on getting the items /clothes for these shots, play it offline and go and play highlands you will get a rising shot very easily from the fringe( pink baseball shirt, pink helmet and baseball bat)

the homing shot with the law of averages will come off the more you play as you need to be a decent distance away from the pin , however i dont know if dawg knows this but i got a homing with suzuki at crowns from 13y albeit the ball was sitting about 5 degrees upslope on the fringe , got homing x 2...(you get police gear)

and spiral..........well read my other posts on here, it's the only offline item i dont have and i know some top players are laughing as i cant pull it off lol..

Anyone know if the Oceania course plays into making LVL 15?

I made it into level 15 on the weekend. It came after an online tournament win
I know you can make LVL 15 offline though.

Surely there were some LVL 15 or higher without Oceania (before it was released)

Roughdawg4

oceania is not required.

Not required but would it play into the scoring ?

My Oceania stats are not awesome but added together maybe -20
18 9o 9i Reg & Long tee

Roughdawg4

oceania has no effect on levels whatsoever.

Not even making your life easier to getting to level 15.
