Hey guys, I just made a post on the GameFAQs board regarding Dre's idea of a "Legends" tourny and thought I'd crosspost it here to see what you guys thought.

Here's my idea:

Every week we play two games.
Week 1: Highlands Reg and Highlands Long
Week 2: Okinawa Reg and Okinawa Long
...
Week 7: Oceania Reg and Oceania Long

But here's the kicker: you cannot use the same character twice! So that means you have to use 14 different characters throughout the season (minimum 4 novice, 4 intermediate, 4 expert). I think if you did this, you'd find the better "all-around" player, and it mixes it up a bit so it's not just a pure Anya-fest. You might also get some more dramatic movement on the leaderboard depending on player strategies: some start out with novice and others with intermediate or expert. Towards the end, those who started with stronger characters may have to use weaker ones on Crown and Peaks.

Score and points would be totaled throughout the season, so at the end you might have:

Player..................Score.......Points....
1. T. Woods..........-335........-82650
2. P. Mickelson......-333........-83781
3. V. Singh............-330........-79200
4. P. Harrington......-329........-79469
5. S. Garcia..........-329........-77710
6. A. Kim..............-329........-77640
7. C. Villegas........-326........-78240
8. R. Karlsson.......-325........-77436
9. E. Els...............-325........-76233
...

Then for the playoffs:

Week 1 Quarterfinals (Best of 5):
T. Woods vs. R. Karlsson -- T. Woods wins
P. Mickelson vs. C. Villegas -- P. Mickelson wins
V. Singh vs. A. Kim -- V. Singh wins
P. Harrington vs. S. Garcia -- S. Garcia wins

Week 2 Semifinals (Best of 5)
T. Woods vs. S. Garcia -- T. Woods wins
P. Mickelson vs. V. Singh -- V. Singh wins

Week 3 Finals (Best of 7)
T. Woods vs. V. Singh -- T. Woods wins

--

Hmm, any thoughts?

Yeah, like I just posted on the other board, your idea is not so much unlike what I proposed myself a couple of weeks ago:

Maybe we could combine our ideas and efforts and get something like this going? But I think it will have to be an event in its own rights, not a part of the season thing or the champions cup. My idea called for it to be a Tour event in its own rights, and as you can see by the thread I linked to above, there's certainly interest for something like this, but primarily if it's made to be a weekend event...

Also, if this thing get going, I was meaning to suggest to give the players 2 or more strikes, as they often have in events going over a long period of time. That would give people who for whatever reason can't make it to one of the events a chance to compete, and players that gets unlucky in one or two tournaments a chance to forget about it and still be in the competition. Of course, the strikes would have to be mandatory, so the best players might feel a little bad about it if the do perfect rounds on all the courses. However, if their runs are perfect on all courses then they'll win regardless of any strikes, and likely all players will find one or two occasions when something doesn't quite go as well as planned...

What do you think?

Hmm, I see what you mean -- the ideas are quite similar!

My worry about having it as a separate event though is that it might be harder to round up enough people if they're already committed to the league and/or other events. Who knows though, it might work.

I don't mind the idea of having "strikes" either. I know it'll be hard for everyone to make every game. I was initially thinking that we could just make a missed round equivalent to the round of the last place competitor minus one stroke and 250 points. So, let's say the worst score on Highland Regular Tee was -15, 3450 pts. If you missed that round, you'd be given a score of -14, 3200 pts. This way, you'd never gain ground on anyone for missing a round, but you at least wouldn't fall hopelessly behind. Maybe it'd be best to combine the ideas and use my format plus a two strike allowance? So, if you missed four rounds, they'd all be given the score of (last place minus one) but your worst two would be removed. Another benefit to this is that there could be some mid-season joins without much penalty.

I moved this topic because you were discussing a tournament rather then next year's season. Hopefully, this will clear up some confusion.
