Do you guys just pretty much copy what others say in tourneys/ gamerooms etc like i do or do you no what you are actually saying? I love this game but it would be nice if i could get my hands on some kind of translation sheet because i feel like im one comment away from making myself look pretty stupid lol.

If you just want to play along politely all you need is the greeting, the goodbye, the congrats on... and the thankyou. Funny thing in the lobby once I was talking to someone, can't remember who, maybe reeja or ncym and some Japanese guy came up to us talking in Japanese. First comment was do we speak Japanese, didn't have a chance to answer when he started calling us many unflattering names. We thought it was kind of funny as my wife would translate for me and I would tell whoever I was talking with the English version, pretty amusing.

The one you see most often on hole-outs is just 'congratulations'. top of second page of options. other than that, just mimic what others are putting in or stay silent.
Feel free to find me in lobby, we can play a game and i will try to let you know what the others mean.

If you want to do some work then a lot aren't that hard to figure out. get a katakana table off the internet. All imported words which all golf words are use katakana as characters and they are basically the same word with the Japanese sound structure. Katakana is the least complex of the character systems they use so whenver you see something with just one or 2 strokes (lines) it is probably katakana especially if they look straighter or boxier than the other characters. Once you figure out the katakana word the rest is easy. Example: find ace which will sound like aisu and you can guess the rest means nice or congrats. Reading back at this I suggest just find someone who has been there awhile to help you out, easier. ;)

The sticky in this thread...combined with

and

Printed out a lot of that, have the pages near my games and I can know what's going on for the most part.
