I'm SOOOO glad i got my season games in early this week!
I was just trying to log in to sitin for the wednesday night, and my PS3 is locking up about 2 seconds into booting. It gets to "Sony Computer Entertainment" and just freezes. Tried rebooting, unplugging everything, etc....same thing everytime.
Any suggestions?

its happening sporadically. It will work one time, then lock up the next 2 or 3 times.

Once i get it up again, can someone tell me if there is a way to back up data from ps3, in case i need to bring it in and they give me a new one?

have you tried cleaning it? i once a week take a vacuum to it. i vacuum the vents and use a disk cleaner. it might be working right if its dirty...... if you keep it clean.... time for a new one! What are you trying to save?

Had it since they first came out several years ago...never vacuumed it before. I'll give it a shot.
.... time for a new one! What are you trying to save?
When i bought it, i got this 3 year replacement plan on it from the store, so if anything goes wrong, they'll just swap it out with one on the shelf, no questions asked. Kind of tempted to do it anyways, since mine is a 20GB and they don't even sell em that small i don't think....i'll get my prob fixed and a free upgrade! lol

I had an issue a couple of weeks ago, it was not a freeze up though.
Using my DS3 controller I ejected NHL09 and then inserted HSG: OOB
it would not detect the disc, I retried with NHL09 and nothing again...
I was ready to freak out! Then I put in a blu-ray movie, it found that
so I immediately ejected that and retride HSG: OOB it found it and I have
not had any trouble since *knock on wood*
Hopefully your problem sorts itself out Morph.

I remember that, you were really upset about that and then it started working.

Well i just found how to backup this morning, so i'm backing up every other day or so and see what happens.
Is anyone familiar with what all the backup saves? download games? individual game save files? or is it just your PS3 settings?

If you did a full backup, it saves all of your settings, pictures, music and game saves.
I had to do this when mine got ''pulled' to the floor by one of my dogs when playing RB. I had to send it in to get fixed but luckily they didn't screw around with the HD so i didn't need to upload the backup.
I think there is just a game save setting backup you can use so if you did a full backup just do the game save setting every day.

Well, i went ahead and cashed in on the 2 year extended warranty they MADE me buy when i bought the blasted thing (which consequently is about to expire in 2 weeks)....i successfully backed up my data, repacked it in the box and brought it back to the store. I have the 20GB version, the cheapest version available when they first came out, and of course they don't sell those anylonger...or at least not at this particular store. So, i am now the proud owner of a brand new 80GB ps3! Not a bad deal.
Only bummer was the almost 3 hours of installs, downloads and updates that had to be installed, but small price to pay as far as i'm concerned.
All backups restored perfectly, so i'm back in business!

The only one that ever got played was an 8 year old version of Need for Speed......its my 5 year old's favorite game. Are you serious? it won't play the ps2's at all?!? He will NOT be happy about that!

YEah, i've got a few of the newer ones for PS3....way too sensitive/realistic for a 5 year old...lol. Now if i could find a download for Pole Position, he'd be straight!
