View Full Version : How do you vent your frustration?

Yes, we've all been there... Lip outs, low percentage impact leading to OBs or WHs, unlucky bounces etc. So how do you let off steam when it all goes wrong?
I just had to go out and buy a new controller after a killer bounce on Crown left me in the water... I was aiming for a rather large cushion when I hurled the device out of frustration. Alas, as in the game, my aim is rotten and it smashed to pieces on the wall behind.
I'm (supposed to be) a grown man. This is ridiculous. Only last-minute winners on PES used to get me angry... but now HSG is the new blood pressure tester.
I keep telling myself 'it's only a game' but that has about as much effect as decaf coffee after a night on the sauce when you miss p.i on Crown 4 and watch your tee shot slowly trickle inches past the cup and into a watery grave.

When I was leading crown by 2-3 strokes ( i think? I just needed a clean par to win ) with a -14..... and timed out on hole 18..... all I could do was laugh.
I laughed like a nutcase. Laughed so hard I thought I belonged in the looney bin.
Better than breaking my controller or throwing it directly at the TV.....
My kids were in the room too, so mad, they were so angry, but was trying to show them good sportsmanship.....
Who knows what I wouldve done if they were not in the room. I try not to get too frustrated tho. It is just a game, after all. Play for fun. I do get mad when I net error or something I have no control over.

I am italian so i have bad tempers and fury. Two years ago my fiance bought me a nice punching bag and I use it all the time. Over the last 9 months I have been taking boxing lessons as well. Honestly it gets everything out of me and I am much happier.

I used to throw the controller at a pillow too, but with little kids around (you never know how it'll bounce off of it), I instead just throw the pillow. I try not to do it in front of the kids. Already frustrated how my two sons (8 and 4) react to messing up in videogames (the first gets angry like me and the younger starts fake crying which can lead to real crying lol), they don't need to see me model bad behavior. ;D
By the way, I definitely have bellowed out some crazy hysterical laughs. :D My wife was a bit disturbed but better than cursing nonstop which I did recently when timing out on the 17th hole in 2nd place with a chance to win. The kids were in bed, but she was none too pleased.
She doesn't understand why I keep playing if I get so upset, but my argument was a) she doesn't remember what it was like to be competitive (she used to do gymnastics before high school) and b) I only get really upset either when I don't give myself a chance to do well by timing out or the computer AI completely screws me over (and I've seriously mellowed on the latter, but timeouts irk me like no other--I know I'm one of the slowest players, so I know I need to get better). :-\ I told her at least I don't get upset about game rooms, and even league events and such I don't get upset about anymore. You learn to live with things after awhile. ;)

Perhaps we should start a thread that all wives, fiances and partners can post in to vent their frustrations about us! I'm sure my wife has a few choice words about the amount of time i spend on the game and the forum.
Last night as an example: I finally cracked Safari Reg PB with a great -23 and the first thing i did was get straight on the phone and call Cars - regardless of the fact that it was just past midnight GMT!

Push up.. I gave myself a quick 25 push ups per lips and 30 push ups per bogey. I'd do 50 push ups if I OB. This way I don't have time to be angry. Imagine 5 lips in a game eh. I make note of lips and bogey if I'm in fast timer tour and pay the price after tour over. The trick is to let my mind look forward to punishment at the end of the game instead of anger.

Yep, I screw up sooo much just gotta keep on. I'd probably be much more mad if I was actually good, and then screwed up only occasionally.

I'm guilty of venting my frustrations with a given hole during the between-hole breaks. I'm sure people aren't all that interested in knowing what went wrong or hearing my complaining, but there's something cathartic about it. If I'm just flat-out playing poorly though, I usually stop texting all together.
That being said, one of the most annoying things for me is when people proceed to whine and moan about getting hosed on every single hole. I mean really, I too get annoyed by lips / whoops, but I don't believe for a second that you're getting some ridiculous, unexplainable lip on 16 out of 18 holes. At some point you've gotta sack up and admit that maybe, just maybe you wouldn't get so many crappy breaks if you weren't such a crappy putter.

I am the same way smug, most of the time i stop typing regardless how i am playing. I just dont like talking nor do i want to hear your bad breaks every hole

What? No way! :o It's the other persons in the game room/tournament who are to blame, for not hitting a bogey along with you! ;D I thought we had an agreement here; never leave anyone behind... :D
Anyway, I don't really vent my frustration properly. :'( Should really find some kind of outlet, I think... Of course, as of lately I really don't care as much as I did before, but it can still get to me if it adds up over enough holes. :D

It will probably happen if my hormones are not in the right mood.
At least I can blame it on the pregnancy ;)

i'm pretty good about it as well. i have thought about trying to see if I could break a sixaxis in half just by bending it :o
when i get really bad i'll slap the couch cusion next to me, it's soft so no damage to myself or the couch
dirtdog91

I do the couch slap/punch also, then complain to myself how i just screwed up the hole, next i stuff my lip with a bigger pinch of the Skoal and get back to golf.

I just swear. I might add I live alone.

I would say yes it is whining

Agreed, though it would be whining on a website and not in the game.
Also, bit of a difference between whining once and whining 18 times over the course of a round :-X

LOL at this thread!
My family is not real throwers of controlers, or anything for that matter.
They don't complain in between holes because of bad shots.
WHAT they DO ALL THE TIME is.....
Yell---
"OH MY F-IN GOD!!!" (combined with the couch/chair slap)
they have now been banned from the f word or they will get the game shut off immediatly by me if I hear it. We do have small children in the house after all.

^^ LOL, that is awesome. :D I banned myself from the F word if the kids are awake. Now it's "dagnabbit" (from Kate, of course) and "fudge" (from A Christmas Story). Funny thing about the latter, my youngest son thought fudge was a bad word for awhile. :D
