How do you get around the golf course? Obviously you do it one shot at a time but it is a laid back feel, you've got one character that you play almost exclusively. You don't have the numbers for the different gauges tattooed next to your cornea and you just hit most by feel. Or do you break every shot down, i.e., I want to land here, and have an 5 iron into the green even though I can hit my tee shot further and have a 6 iron but I'll be between clubs and I'll be hitting the ball from an unfavorable incline.

To boil the above down, do you approach the game casually and learn from trail and error what to do, and basically just rely on the familiarity with the course and what you've managed on it before to be your guide. Or, on the flip side, do you go out and practice courses, and play each hole with all 3 cup positions with different wind conditions. When you're practicing do you try out un-conventional strategies like aiming for the rough from the tee but hit the shot in the red on whatever side it needs to be to have your drive go right down the middle, and a little further than what you usually manage (sometimes). When you're in between clubs do you have the first three divisors (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) memorized for most of your clubs.

For instance I learned this by chance but a few of the hole's on Nakagawa I was getting a lot of shots that were in the 66-70 yd range. This is with Lee who seems to be a fairly popular character. I quickly learned that's a 3/4 shot, her 80+ shot is between the 3/4 marker and half power. I know this is simple math but it's an indication of how scientifically you approach the game.

What's your first thought when you're lining up a putt; the break or the speed? And for either answer, why?

Also, where are the threads on chipping and putting?
