View Full Version : HSGOT2 pet peeves

I have many pet peeves when it comes to HSGOT2, what bothers other people the most?

Some of mine are in no apparent order.

1) HSG rules for tournaments and matches. These were fine in the lower difficulty courses, but an absolute pain in the butt for the already ridiculously difficult courses such as El Andes, Fortress, Dino etc. I mean these courses are hard enough without having wonky power gauges, and penalties for rough or sand traps. The only HSG rule i do not have a problem with is the big hole one, the others annoy the crap out of me when i am trying to get a card in the platinum tournaments.

2) Teflon greens, of which El Andes is one of the worst offenders. Ball rolls off the green at the slightest provocation and off into the water or out of bounds. Hole 12 is the biggie in that regards.

3) Lying power bar and impossible shots. Meaning powering up to get to a hole by the remaining distance only to find out that the ball is not going to go that far, sometimes even if you max out the bar and get the music note. One hole in Dino is a good example of impossible shots, i forget the exact hole, but its the one where the green is on the other side of a volcano i think with some fairway ground going up one side on the left. Even though you have a club to get the distance, you cannot actually get the ball to the green going across this out of bounds area. I have tried many many times with no luck even if the club i use can easily make the distances. Unless there is a tremendous headwind or something these shots should be possible. There are many other shots that will not make it for some reason even though the distances are not out of the range of your club and the wind is not a big factor. I sometimes think the game purposely cheats in order to make you miss the shot.

4) Unsure if i ever will be able to unlock Chad as i cannot get the cards needed do mostly to peeve #3 and the ridiculously difficult courses you have to play to get the cards. There have been many instances were i have been sorely tempted to take the game disc out and sail it into a brick wall in sheer frustration over not being able to beat the various opponents in tournaments due to the aforementioned impossible shots, irritating HSG rules, teflon greens etc.

Okay rant mode off. heh What are some of you guy's pet peeves? (other then people like me ranting over their peeves i mean. :P )

Heh if forgot one other peeve. The caddies drive me nutz with their comments if a shot is not going to make it in their opinions, not always true as i have made shots despite their comments. Their ragging on you comments are another reason i do not care for them to much. I wish you could turn them off entirely, not just keep their picture from loading via the options menu.

Have to agree with you on the second post there, Jack. The caddies telling me "you're joking me" and "ah, terrible", really does nothing for my game... Hate those condescending caddies. >:(

My other peeve would have to be the lack of advanced shots, as I'm no good with traditional. ;D

I play with the sound off 99.9% of the time so the caddies don't bug me. lol

As for the rules, I don't mind em at all.

The teflon greens....now those do get very, very annoying at times. At times you hit a shot that you know should stick and hold, yet doesn't...the same with...

the incorrect power meter you mention. I've played a ton of rounds, and yes, there are times when the ball magically pulls up short of distance. I've had it happen to me even when I'm hitting to a lower surface. That is one thing that is extremely frustrating, but I don't know if it's random or the game is designed to f'ck with ya a certain percentage or what.

My biggest pet peeve with online play is the inability to skip the dead time between holes in tournaments. You can do it in match play, but not tourneys, and it bugs the heck out of me.

I have to agree with Welp on the online dead time. That makes it less enjoyable to way a minute to a minute and a half in between holes.

My biggest pet peeve though is on the greens that are super fast and you hit a putt that is going down hill and it stops inches from the cup, Where you barely touch one and it goes a mile off the green. The inconsistencies drive me crazy. :P

I recently started to play this in the psp, but can never find anyone online (local or global!). How many people are needed to make a G3 official?

I with you on this one bro. I can occasionally find 1 person but 9 times out of 10 one of us will disconnect! Very disappointed in the online game play for OT2.

You only need two to make it official. It's a bit risky with only two, though, since if the other one quits or times out before the end of the tournament you will be kicked out too, not getting credit for the game. It can be quite annoying, so it might be a good idea to "play down" a bit if you see the other person falling behind. If the game finishes, though, it is an easy first or second place, and it counts as such just as much as a larger tournament. :)

It is tough to find players at the early stages, but then the game has been out a good while, I imagine it was easier when it was newer.

But that brings me to another pet peeve about online play. If the other people quit out or die off in a game, you should get a win if you are the last one standing. It bugs me that it counts against you when that happens. It really, really bugs me.

Oh and as another peeve, I hate when you hit a shot, with good impact, and the ball magically jumps left or right. I know this is golf game, and in golf, noone is 100% perfect etc. etc. etc., however, this is a video game, if you hit with good impact, the shot should not jump right or left! lol.

That's great help thanks guys, i like the idea of 'playing down' the opponent so they dont drop out early. I also agree that it SHOULDN'T count against you if someone drops out or gets disconnected, i mean wtf is that all about??? It aint rocket science to get that scenario set up right and make it fair for players. Obviuosly the programer was a stoner or something that didn't care...
p.s i have nothing against stoners ;)
