I have a few threads I have subscribed too but I don't think I have ever used this feature before?
How come I have some there and what are the requirements of it automatically subscribing a thread for me.

Good question. I believe the default is for everyone to auto-subscribe to threads they reply in (but without email notification of new posts in those threads). You can change this setting for yourself in your profile:
Click My Profile
Click Edit Options (under Settings & Options)
In the box labeled Default Thread Subscription Mode (under Messaging & Notification), click the drop-down box and choose how you want to subscribe or not subscribe to threads.
