So, after a wobble the other day, and numerous kick outs, it appears that my Blu-Ray reader has chucked the towel in. It won't find the disc, and had been crashing regularly on ModNation Racers (and that wasn't my driving). I am assuming that the laser has expired, and I am going to have to take a trip to the shops, as I don't fancy having a bash at getting the screwdriver out (I am not much of a handyman...)

I believe that this is the explanation for Zahovich's absence too, but he has his being repaired.

sorry to hear that, dim. just your turn, i guess. hope you return soon. when it comes to blu-ray issues, i don't believe there's a whole lot that novices like you and i can do about it.

hey, at least you can recover all your data.
while you wait, i would recommend

It appears golf is burned into the reader. It is the only disc it reads. Not gone yet. And Z is back :)

Sorry to hear that Daddy-O. Blu-ray are a little more complex than the day to day routine issues most of us have experienced. However if Kbongg still looks in or if you can get hold of him, i recall he has had and combatted this issue successfully in the past and said that there is a fairly (and i use fairly loosely) simple work aorund.

Alternatively - go and give the boy a slap, telling him he should be spending his time revising and studying and take his console for a bit....

or....

.... go and buy a spanking new slim! Treat yourself - you're worth it!

Not necessarily as strange as it may sound, that. EGWT/HSGOOB installs the whole game onto the hard drive of the PS3, and runs everything from the disk. Had it not been for the copy protection Sony has implemented on the PS3s the game could actually have been run perfectly without even inserting the disc. The only thing you need the disc for is for the PS3 to identify the game and verify its validity. That requires very little laser activity. The moment your PS3 won't even read that game you can be sure the laser is completely FUBAR...

Sorry to hear about your problems, though. I wouldn't wait too long before taking it to be repaired though, even if it means time away from the game...

I believe Minna runs without the disc even in the PS3. As for BD laser repair, there are several very detailed youtube videos on how to clean the laser. I did it on my first PS3 and it bought an extra 8 months before I had a more serious issue with the motherboard and a third party repair center couldn't fix it. I wouldn't recommend a self-fix unless your PS3 is already out of warranty because opening it up voids the warranty. Here's an example...

If it's out of warranty it might be worth giving it a go at changing the bluray drive out urself. With all the ylod issues ur bound to find 1 pretty reasonable if not for free. Once u get it open I believe it's just 1 clip connecting the drive itself. I assume the slims have a bit of a different drive than the fat 1's so keep that in mind.

So not 10 minutes after I canceled my world of warcraft subscription, my PS3 decides for the first time to not read my HSG5 disc. Ejected it, tried again and it worked...but ctfo.

Yes it does............... sort of. You can play without the disc. But you'll need the disc for the auto save to work and get back to the main menu once you're done with your round.
I tried it once.
