View Full Version : Stupid internet connection keeps failing on me!

For the last couple days, my internet keeps going from connected to disconnected every few minutes. It comes back after a few seconds though, but it becomes extremely annoying whenever I: 1, am watching a Youtube video and the video isn't done buffering (red line above the time of video and volume); this causes the video to stop buffering and I have to refresh the page and wait for it to buffer again and sometimes, it has the exact same problem.

2, whenever I try to post a comment around the internet, the connection inconveniently gets disabled for a few seconds and the comment doesn't appear. My only saving grace if this happens is if I hit the red X (Stop button) next to Refresh. That way I can try to post my comment again with success. Oh, sometimes whenever my comment is extremely long, I copy the whole thing before replying bcuz I just have that bad feeling that my connection is gonna crash. Heck, I'm gonna go ahead and copy this when I'm done with the whole thing, lol. =P

I was wanting to know, is Netgear horrible? I ask bcuz that's what I'm using right now (I have for the entire time) and I'm getting annoyed with it. I'm really thinking about asking my dad to replace it for a new and better connection system. What do you guys think? Is there anything better for me to use? Is there anything I can do about this?

Edit: LOL! Guess what happened when I tried to post this comment/topic? INTERNET FAILED AGAIN! Thank goodness for the copy save.

I kept my computer turned off for about an hour earlier and it still has problems. So by reboot, you mean restart?

Or the router could need replacing. There are a ton of things that could be an issue here. The bloke in my local computer shop reckons Netgear are as good as it gets, but that doesn't mean it won't go wrong.

Reboot modem & router, and you need to check and see if router has most current firmware. From a brower you need to connect to the router web interface by going to the gateway IP address, usually deafult is 192.168.1.1. Gateway IP can be found by going to "run" in the windows menu, type "cmd," then when the command window opens, type "ipconfig." It will list what the ip address of your computer as well as the gateway IP. Type gateway IP into address bar of browser and you can manage the router settings and check if the firware is current.

We reset the router, that worked a little bit. But then I was told to use the disk defragmentation on my computer. My dad told me this would help, but it's made my computer a little slower and my connection goes away at times still. Also, hsg.com has been running slow the last few minutes or so. Idk if that's bcuz of my computer or bcuz of the ads though. :(

Edit: I think I figured out the hsg.com problem. It's the ads at the bottom, especially that DirecTV ad.
