New problem- your user ID is not SAFE!!!

To all of us who hold our names sacred in the game.....

I played a G1 tournament with Niceguv yesterday. Then I see him today he is already a G2. So apparently that was NOT Niceguv in G1, just someone using his name.

Same day I see two Angie-weebles in Lobby 1.

Then all the sudden there is two of me in the lobby. !!!!! ????? And I was a G0?!!

Japan accounts you can change your user ID to WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!

So what kinds of new problems will this cause? Well, how about G0's theifing podiums? EASY to steal podiums if you pretend to be someone like Niceguv, who everyone likes! Just be nice and get the podium.... instead of us G1's giving you grief, we are giving you praise. How about that?

I am pretty angry about this right now. Why do they let you change your user ID? So unfair.

Yeah, the Japanese accounts can allow you to use any ID you like - even copying somebody else's!

This was used a lot in the RIdge Racer community, mostly for fun - I remember one particular occassion where there was a team race: One team comprised of 4 yasdad's and the other had 3 other IDs all the same :D But the same method has been used to damage the reputation of other players and this is not so good >:(

The easiest way to tell an unreal ID from a real one is if you have the real person on your friends list - obviously the unreal ID will not show as a friend in the game room.

Also, if you view your "Players met" list and check the profile of another player, you'll see their genuine PSNID. Not a great help if you don't know you're looking at an unreal ID, but if they act like morons when you know they normally don't, this is a sure-fire way to check if they're using an ureal ID or not.

P.S. I was trying to use the word bleepe, but the filter won't allow it ??? So where you read "unreal ID", assume I wrote "begins with f and rhyms with cake" :)

It could not have been Rob disguised as Niceguv though, because "Robamantic" has already promo to G0 before that tourney, and there is NO WAY he could already have two accounts brewing. I dont have any idea who it was in the G1 tourney disguised as Niceguv.

Well, I asked him to Please take my name off, did not want people to thing I got promotion to G0 yet, would definately make it less meaningful for if/when I do promo and he took it off right away.

But I may be the queen of the G1's. I know everyone says they had to battle the G0's with multiple accounts to get to G0, and I realize that is true, but I have been in tournements lately with several new names, and their stats CLEARLY SHOW that they are not true G1 (example, 4 games played, 1 win, 1 2nd place, two thirds??) And now it is almost HALF of the players in the game. I dont mind if they want to play and drop out at the end (thank you pals, you know who you are!!!) But it seems as if ever since the new HSG ranking system is out, there is all the sudden more new names playing one hell of a game. So, all hail your G1 queen, Yuna, I will be here forever!!!! (oh yes, that is me WHINING!!!) LOL

No Eddie, if you look at their stats in the lobby you will be able to see their "true identity" like you can in Minna.... but in a tournament I dont think there is any way of finding out, and all they have to do is hide in a different lobby! And unfortunately, tournaments players are not in our list of players met! It was Rob pretending to be me as a joke in lobby one (cuz it was G0) but I dont know WHO the G1 person is using Niceguv's name!

I don't think there's much to worry about. The use of Japanese accounts to cause trouble or just for a bit of fun is nothing new and those that haven't learnt how to do it will soon find out without our help.

The fact is, it's the way of the world that there's always the odd moron around and they will always find new ways to cause trouble no matter how often their toys get taken away.

I'd say if you become aware of a f a k e ID that is copying yours and causing trouble - let us all know here and we will be aware of it and be on the lookout. Whether Sony could or would do anything is something that may get tested if a complaint gets put to them - might be interesting ;)

Happened to me too, my friends in bristol uk started asking me some strange questions the other night during an 18 hole stroke game, asking if I was ok the reason being I was calling them all sorts of things that involve *****, anyway turns out they had played me two days earlier but it wasn't me as I was at work. If anyone copies "interyernan" i will hunt them down and kill them! I have used this name since i was about 14 for all online gaming (except my psp). By law i think it should be copy written in my name. I always wear the same stuff in lobby anyway. (Heres a hint i actually look like me in real life!) And i never wear any of the extra stuff i have won on the international server. As for the Jap server i am currently sporting a festive hat and beard and riding a mean hog after getting a alby in an online tourney the other night.

Niceguv in g1 tourney today (again). He insists he is the REAL niceguv. He is on my "pals" list whether he is g1 or g2.... but I have a feeling the g2 is the real guv. The reason I dont think the g1 is the real once is because I dont see G1 niceguv in lobby 1. The real guv is always in lobby 1.

Is it possible this a case of- where someone switches a lower case "L" with a capital "I".

Or an "O" with a zero? I've seen people do this in the past. And if that is the case I should be ok because I have no "O" "I" or "L" or even a "u" or "v" in my username.

I think if this causes trouble, so like clint said, we should report it to Claphandz to disallow this feature. And when you're at it, also don't forget to tell them to make G0 variety course/rules.

No if anyone wants to make a play at my user ID, no problem, I think that would actually be funny. Any Final Fantasy account wannabees out there? My nephew has a yunasnephew acct. So cute!!

But, I will never make another user ID. I am not going multiple accounts, I only have my bean acct now to help get 10 in g3 tourneys. If I ever make it to G0, I am going to suck up the crown standard standard novice tournaments and remember that is what I wanted! I will not go hypocrite, so only one acct. I shall have.

OK... There are a LOT of posts abt these jp accounts.. When you're in the lobby, it's easy enough to click on the person and read their true user ID, but yuna's correct--in tours--it is NOT possible to see that information. Perhaps allowing a player search to be performed from tours, or providing user id's in tour leaderboards would clear that up. (good suggestion for update perhaps?)

I am g0, and got into QUITE the heated conversation with someone swearing that my OthersGirl acct was in a g1 tour yesterday and stole a pod. (HAVE NOT BEEN G1 IN WEEKS AS OG!!!!) So NOW the *JOKE* is ruining people's reputations, not to mention the bad-mouthing of golfers that the faux-og was reportedly doing!!!

I have a jp account, and have made my name match a friends (while he was there--we were being funny) but playing as other people in tours, and NOT revealing identity at ANY point? Making that person LOOK BAD? wow. thats just low. I dont like it one bit!!! So, yeah, guess it's funny for a short time -- but perhaps the jp accounts shouldnt be allowed to change names. Seems like there is just way too much potential for abuse!!!

LOL Yes robg has done it many times --- but he doesnt exactly HIDE that it's him. The other ppl doing it were not letting anyone know it was a fake account. Rob may be an azz at times, but he's at least up-front about it. He talks much shyt, but SAYS he talks shyt, yanno? And Robs japanese account is already g0, so NO it wasn't him. Rob has duplicated my acct, but i was there--saw it. he does it when that person is there, to make a CLONE aDOUBLE, not jsut randomly joining tours to pretend to be someone else.
