Congrats Yuna
But, I must warn you that if it took you that long (with that kind of competition) then I can only imagine the struggles you will face in G0.
Here's a tip:
Play when all the bad players play
(11:00AM EST to 3:00PM EST)

Very nice Yuna! Congratulations! I knew you could do it! :)
Haven't been playing very much lately, but I have 16 points in my first 8 games in this G1 block, so unless I suck up the place real bad in the next 22 I should re-join you all soon. :)

Dre's been treading water in G0 for months now. Only a matter of time before he demotes for good.
And no, I don't think its fair to characterize the 11:00am to 3:00pm slot as one that's "easy" for wins, but it certainly does seem to carry a more junior varsity feel compared to the mens' league games that occur later in the day (post 7:00pm EST or later).

LOL, no I'd say about 5% of my total tournaments have been played at that time due to school or sleeping in (read: any time I don't have/go to class). I probably only ever play at those times on the weekends and man, there is a blatant discrepency.
I'm just saying that, as a whole, American players are much better than European players for some reason. Which is funny considering it was invented there. You'd think it would be in their phenotype derived from genetic heritage or something.
Also, I would like to add that this is the only reason why Zahokavich has so many wins.

Congrats Yuna, I too just made it to G0 playground...lol...on Tuesday night. Managed to get one tourney in last night and due to my incredibly crappy putting finished at the bottom. Right now if I made it past the first block of games (40 I think) and remained G0 I would be shocked.
Well I'll have a good time while it lasts ;D

A good way to practice putting is to try and play a round as fast as you possibly can. Just try to go with whatever feels right and don't even try to line up your putt. Most of the time within ten feet I can line up my shot before the bars even have a chance to start moving. I'd just practice the greens on crown again and again. And you have to concentrate. Just focus on each and every hole and if you miss just tell yourself that you are going to get at least a birdie on the remaining holes. I don't know how you're not G0. I don't see how anyone that's actually trying wouldn't be able to make it out of G1. The competition comprises of people that have either been playing since launch and suck or people that just started the game and probably suck just because they are new. Frankly, I don't know how anyone that is actually trying couldn't make it out of G1 with the shape that it's in. But, the hilarious thing is when people make it out of G1 and come to G0 and you see them at the bottom with a +4 in a crown tourn begging to be put back in G1. The level of competition from G1 to G0 has got to be HUGE. And the gap will only continue to increase the older the game gets.

12-26-2008, 06:04 AM
yeah i agree with you dre that g1 to g0 is a huge gap in competition. Of course the reason is once you make it to g0, you only need 4 points to stay at that level which is not too difficult.

I give ashyt what u think about european players. But since i remember, last time when i play same time as u, u was all tours below me, so dont be so cocky! 1thing when there gr8 gr8 america have time 6PM here is about 1AM!, who plays that times if u must work or school in a mornin???? This game is not my whole life! ITS SO SAD IF SOME PLAYERS THINK LIKE DRE. But Dre if u r so might and powerful just let me know when u r in game ive pleasure to beat u ;D or other way u beat me! Never know! Merry Xmas all..

I don't know how the talent level is overall, but I think on this site it is pretty even.
I know the united states won the last ryder cup, but I got a feeling it will be a little bit closer this time. With the addition of a few more european members, I think this will be interesting.
Who knows, maybe we can kick off the new year with a ryder cup. Not promising anything, just saying its a possibility :)

Play when all the bad players play

Don't worry about me Dre, I had to beat and play several G0's to get here, especially lately....
Some of the best (and a bit more humble players than dre), have taken the time to give me tips in the past month. (sleddogs,my first teacher!, cartman, cars, mason, eddie, ect. you all know who you are!!)
Things that I never even knew about the game, but improved my scores from a 1 in 10 podium to 1 in 3 podium, and in my last 18 games I had 4 wins, beating plenty of g0's in the process, and second place finishes that overrode 3rd place podium finishes. And doing it on all courses, not just one course.
If I had known this before, I could've been better much, much sooner!
And of course watching players like ZAHOVICH (correct spelling) in doubles tournament match play did not hurt either. Who is very good BTW!!!
One other thing to mention, to all the G0's who did drop and quit podium in the G1 tourneys THANK YOU!!!
For those who are still podium thieving, HOW CAN YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT?
Anyway, I thank you all and look forward to my first G0 tournament!

I look forward to playing a few rounds in G0 with you and congratulate you on your promotion to G0. I like you got stuck in a rut on G1 and it took disappearing from the game for a while and then coming back and refining my skills playing in game rooms with Cars, Jess and a few others. It's amazing how much you can learn watching some of the other players. I learnt shortcuts i hadn't even thought about, where to rabbit and also shot placement.
If you every fancy practising in a game room and you see me online i'm always up for quick 9 - it does tend to break the boredom between tournies.
All the best

'twas gangster, rough +2 and wind was killing people, me included. Lit the front nine on fire (-8 right?) for those conditions and intermediate/standard, made a lot of good putts on the back nine including the last hole to win.
Again, great job yuna

Definitely getting the shakes after going a week without any HSG OOB or Minna. Getting off a flight tomorrow evening and hope to get a round or two in late night, but after that it will be yet another week (more than a week, actually!) before I'm back again. Admittedly it's vacation related... but still doesn't seem fair. Win one for the Gip, playas.

uhhhh, what's with blasting z, brotha dre?
i've seen him dominate during all times of the day
and i would imagine it's a bit difficult for him to stick around until 8 or 9pm est to play during usa primetime hours (that would be what, zahovich, 3 or 4 in the morning?)
if it was us we wouldn't have much of a choice other than to play during EST lunchtime
is there some beef here that i missed?

I'm not normally one to act like a mod, but I think it's a bit disrespectful towards Yuna to continue this kind of argument in this thread :( She is rightly proud of ranking up and taking her first win at G0, so please at the very least start a new thread to discuss the pros and cons of playing at different times, thanks guys :)

You think this is bad? You should check out another certain board where a Merry Christmas thread turned into something way worse than this. This is a regular lovefest compared to what happens over there. Now I am going to have lunch, perhaps an open face club sandwedge....mmmm

Congrats, Yuna! Especially getting that first win so early. That should be a huge confidence boost. You'll be racking up the pods now. My only advice would be to not burn yourself out. All these G0 tourneys with rain, Crown, and now Toro. If you go on a bad run (like I did yesteday), it can really hurt your confidence. Best to take G0 tourneys in small doses unless you're on a good run. Cheers!

Yuna's fought her azz off to get to g0, battling pod-stealing g0s along the way (and yes i know that EVERYONE goes through that) but its been a challenge. She played well and KUDOS to her!!!!! And also -- WAY TO GO ON THAT TROPHY wowza!!! 2nd g0 game and already a first place!!! SHEEESH Color Me Impressed!!!! ;) AWESOME JOB GIRL!!!

thank you all for your kind words, this was a nice thing to read, most of the time ;D
Also congrats to many of my fellow G1 m8's, it seems we all found Christmas week to be a good time to become G0!!
Fried~~ pal, keep the confidence up, you are worthy and will be G0, you are next buddy! And as always, thank you for sticking up 4 me!
OG~~ glad to see you finally join in, you always have plenty to say so ur two cents are always interesting to read.... :D
Thank you everyone again! I finally feel like it is time to completely ENJOY this game, instead of it being something I needed to accomplish, so I am glad to play for fun more than a OCD chore. My win was completely unexpected, but I must admit I was jumping up and down on hole 18 when I sunk that horrible putt for the win.... :o

yuna i was worried about you getting to g0, coz i dropped out. i know you've won 1, but to get good in g0 you have to beat them, hence why i was reluctant to drop out.
nice going though. bout time.
